The Manchester Way
The Manchester Conference 2006 - called The Manchester Way - was part of the formal structure of the Manchester Partnership. Our commitment is to hold a conference every two years - the first was in 2002.
The purpose of conference 2006 was to start the consultation on
Manchester's Sustainable Community Strategy 2006-2015.
To widen the audience, this conference was billed as a community event for residents and those who work, enjoy or who have an interest in Manchester.
The event was on March 18 2006 at the Manchester International Convention Centre from 11.00am -4.00pm. On the day , the elements of the new community strategy (available on-line and created by
Bubble) were introduced and the concept of the Mancunian Agreement debated.
Manchester's Sustainable Community Strategy 2006-2015 consists of:
The Film - The Manchester Way: Using narration and case studies, this captures in a dynamic and interesting way how people lives will change when the vision for 2015 is achieved. It is inspirational and aspirational with the film made by an award winning film company. The film can be viewed on this website.
The Background: Where we have come from and successes to date.
The Vision: Where Manchester will be in 2015
The Mancunian Agreement: A consultation project seeking out views of residents on the roles and responsibilities of those who live, work and study in Manchester. It could be a voluntary, but formal agreement between residents and their city.
The Local Area Agreement and Partner Agreement: Formal agreement made with Government on addressing issues that most affect the lives of Manchester residents and a Partner 's commitment to delivering on a number of well-defined issues.
The Delivery : How the strategy will translate into action.
The Ten Year Plan: Targets at various levels to address the changes needed to reach the vision.
The workshops during the conference focused on the Mancunian Agreement consultation and were based on what makes a good Mancunian as identified by residents during the 100 Days Challenge 2005. There were fun activities, Coronation Street stars: Bill Tarmey (Jack Duckworth); Alan Halsall (Tyrone) and Sonia Smith (Maria), interactive exhibitions and free refreshments.
