LOCAL DEMOCRACY AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
Manchester City Council Members are elected by residents and each of the 32 wards is represented by three Councillors. Their understanding of local issues is critical to identifying the needs of those living in our neighbourhoods.
Within the context of the Manchester Partnership the councillors' role is two-fold. They are accountable to residents through the democratic process of elections, and they call the thematic partnerships and others to account if agreed local actions are not being delivered by Manchester Partnership.
Manchester Partnership has strengthened connections between the partnership and Members by putting a number of systems in place. These are:
- Executive Members of Manchester City Council are members of the thematic partnerships. Members attend the multi-agency thematic meetings and receive regular briefings on the work of the partnership.
- Thematic Partnerships submit annual reports to the Overview and Scrutiny Committees of Manchester City Council.
- The Manchester Partnership Board submits an annual report to its Overview and Scrutiny Committee and to the Executive of Manchester City Council.
- The Manchester Partnership Management Group supports the development of Ward Coordination as a way of enabling councillors to influence other public services locally.
