STRATEGIC REGENERATION FRAMEWORKS
For thirty years, injections of money into short-term urban regeneration programmes were unsuccessful in solving the range of neighbourhoods problems in those parts of England suffering from extreme deprivation.
A new strategic approach was adopted, with a long-term perspective based on common vision. To underpin this vision, strategic frameworks ensure that the vision is maintained and delivered through actions plans.
The key task is to make physical regeneration opportunities work so as to achieve social and economic development. Effective non-physical interventions are necessary to keep the momentum of regeneration rolling forward once physical rebuilding is complete. These are the new sustainable neighbourhoods.
A number of strategic regeneration areas in Manchester are supported by strategic regeneration frameworks.
To strengthen the relationship between the Manchester Partnership's seven thematic partnerships and the multi-agency strategic regeneration teams, meetings are held regularly in order to co-ordinate issues that affect a number of neighbourhoods and wards and those affecting specific areas. In this way, the needs of residents are highlighted not just on a district wide level, but also a local level.
