Mancunian Agreement

MANCUNIAN AGREEMENT

The idea of a shared set of principles, or an agreement between people and their city came from a group of residents.

At the root of the idea was their belief that everyone should play a part in contributing towards a better city and a better life if we are going to create a place where the quality of life is second to none.

The new vision for 2015 outlined in the Community Strategy has given us an opportunity to explore this idea with everyone who lives, works or studies in Manchester.

It's not enough to have all public sector agencies and the government working more efficiently and closely together - to reach our vision everyone must be involved.

We asked people what they thought about the concept of a Mancunian Agreement A broad range of views came out of this.  Two of the clearest views were that if Manchester has an agreement like this it will work best on a neighbourhood level rather than applying the same agreement across the whole of the city, and that seeing samples of what agreements might look like would help stimulate further debate on whether this is a good idea.

After a trial period, a number of Mancunian Agreements were established, others are coming along.
